About the IU School of InformaticsThe Indiana University School of Informatics at Indianapolis is one of the country’s premiere programs in this growing discipline. Informatics is the development and application of information technology (IT) in the context of another field, such as healthcare informatics. School of Informatics graduates work in many diverse fields; for example: • e-business consulting – enhancing online communication between customers and vendors; • Medical informatics – improving information delivery from healthcare organizations to patients via the Internet and developing enhanced digital patient records management systems; • Music – developing new technologies in the field of music; and • Biological research – creating information management software to access vast stores of information from the Human Genome Project databases. The school’s New Media Program on the Indianapolis campus is one of RLHEC’s partners involved in the Health Education for the 21st Century project, along with the IU School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. The IU School of Informatics went online in 2000, with programs on the IUPUI, IU South Bend (IUSB) and IU Bloomington (IUB) campuses. The program serves both undergraduate and graduate students. Faculty members are currently conducting research in data mining, bioinformatics, medical visualization and multilingualism on the Internet, among other areas of exploration.
