Stepping Towards Peace

Grades 3–4
60–90 Minute Program

Course Description

Role–play and practice, which focus on defining and recognizing conflict and criticism, help teach children how to resolve conflict in a peaceful manner. Students discuss causes of conflict and practice steps to help resolve conflict in a healthy way. Visuals, games, and collaborative methods are used to reinforce the message.

Goal

Students will understand the importance of good communication and factors that contribute to violent behavior. Students will comprehend and apply ways to improve communication and reduce violence.

Objectives

  • Verbalize ways that violence relates to overall health.
  • Examine variety of personal feelings and emotions.
  • Identify healthy and unhealthy expressions of emotions.
  • Define conflict.
  • List causes of conflict and stress.
  • Distinguish between hurtful and helpful comments.
  • Practice steps in a problem solving process
  • Recognize benefits of resolving conflicts in healthful way.
