Course Description

In this special program designed for after school clubs, and community youth organizations, students learn the facts about popular drugs. Classes review the effects of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and inhalants on the body. Refusal skills and alternatives to drug use are also discussed.

Goal

Students will understand how specific drugs harm the body and will be reinforced in their decision to remain drug free.

Objectives

  • Recall effects of drugs on specific body organs and systems.
  • Recognize the effects drugs have on the brain and how to keep it safe.
  • Explain how ciliated cells are affected by tobacco smoke.
  • Discuss the effects of marijuana on school studies and physical health.
  • Identify age restrictions and laws regarding alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana.
  • Identify common household items that are often abused as inhalant drugs.
  • Give examples of and demonstrate various resistance techniques to use when pressured by friends.
